Company Profile
We are probably the most experienced UK company in supplying shared ownership of Yachts.
Yacht Fractions was formed in 1991 to specialise in the brokerage of existing shares in
yachts and the formation of new share groups. The Company is owned and run by Chris
Hawes who has experienced yacht sharing on a personal level for more than 30 years.
Chris learned to sail at the age of 8 on a pond somewhere in Hertfordshire in an 8'
pram dinghy. First solo trans-pond at the age of 9 and never looked back. Big boat sailing
started at 14 before the days of VHF and GPS, with seat of pants type seamanship
and navigation learned from his father.
As far as we are aware we are the only company in Europe and the USA to sell shares
in privately owned sailing and motor yachts which are owned jointly by the partners and
fully managed by the partners.
Yacht Fractions Limited is a private limited company run and controlled by the
directors who are also the 100% shareholders. The company has a no debt policy, it does
not have an overdraft facility and has no creditors other than minor amounts to administractive
service providers. The future and control of the company is thus safely within the hands
of the Directors.
The Directors are both trained graduate accountants who have commercial experience to Financial
controller/director level of medium sized companies.
The Company has held its bank account with HSBC since formation in 1991.
We hope that we always operate the company on a fair and morally sound basis.
We have a large number of loyal clients who deal with us time and time again in
their career through the various boats of their lives.
In 1994 while seeking a source of second-hand boats to buy in Greece to form new
groups to supply the ever growing need for shares in the Ionain, we came across Kiriacoulis
Mediterranean SA in Athens. We have been working with them ever since in a very enjoyable
and successful relationship. Through this we are able to offer :
New Bavaria, Gib'Sea, Grand Soleil, Fountain Pajot and Alubat yachts for private
ownership. We can arrange delivery of these into the UK where we have a commissioning and
servicing facility and also into the eastern and Western Mediterranean and the Caribbean.

In 1998 we teamed up with two seperate brokers based in Athens and now have access
to the largest selection of privately owned second hand yachts in the eastern Mediterranean.
Having sold dozens of yachts from Greece to clients from all over the world we feel that
we understand most of the peculiarities of buying in Greece. These cover :
The legal side of the transaction, de-registration, re-registration etc
Surveyors and remedial works
Insurance
Transport from Greece to Northern Europe
VAT
Payment of international funds
In 1998 we also teamed up with Multiplex, our valued Internet supplier. Owned and
run by Nigel Leak who is also a keen yachtsman and share owner. Our company profile
was transformed almost overnight. As a result we have now sold new and second hand yachts
to clients as far afield as Australia, Texas, NE USA, Austria, Slovakia, Kuwait, as well
as all European countries.
Our financial background and training is put to constant use as we deal in many currencies
with both current and "future" payments. As many of our transactions are Euro based for
Clients who are holding Sterling, we are able to offer a full currency management service :
Purchase of international currency at "spot" or today's rate and transfer to foreign
bank accounts.
Purchase of currency to be spent in the future or "Forward contracts" to fix the
price of a purchase where some of the payment is made at a time in the future.
In pursuit of good business practice we operate a secure Client account at the HSBC
where any funds held by clients are stored pending payment. These are seperate from
our normal business funds.
